Sail to and from Portland on the RMS St Helena

Portland Port has the second largest man made harbour in the world, situated 22 miles north of the westerly shipping lanes and on the main maritime trade routes allowing fast, safe access 24 hours a day.

Since the departure of the Royal Navy from Portland Port in 1996, the port has developed into a thriving facility combining its vast natural assets with the full range of services demanded in today’s maritime market.

Weymouth Bay and Portland Port are extremely popular for sailing enthusiasts and has hosted several large sailing events on an international and national basis. They are used for other water sports – the reliable wind is favourable for wind and kite-surfing. Chesil beach and Portland Harbour are used regularly for angling, diving to shipwrecks, snorkeling, canoeing and swimming. The limestone cliffs and quarries are used for rock climbing. Since June 2003 the South West Coast Path National Trail has included 21.3 kilometres (13.2 miles) of coastal walking around the Isle of Portland.

There are day excursions to Stonehenge, Bath and Salisbury Cathedral and there are a host of local castles, stately homes, museums, country gardens and golf courses to enjoy.
